Stormzy and Maya Jama are 'texting again' after star publicly apologised in new track

Stormzy has reportedly made peace with his ex-girlfriend Maya Jama after he publicly apologised to her in his new record, Lessons.

The rapper, 26, and presenter, 25, are said to be ‘texting again’ mere hours after issuing the apology in his emotional track.

In the song, Stormzy confessed to ‘disrespecting’ and being ‘inconsiderate’ towards Maya, who loved him ‘wholeheartedly,’ and said the way he treated her before their split in August was his ‘biggest of regrets.’

A source told The Sun: ‘He knew that he would bring their relationship centre stage again by releasing a track about it, and he felt it was right to reach out.

‘Now they are getting on well again, and their close friends are hoping they might give their relationship another chance.

‘It is crystal clear how much Stormzy regrets how he treated Maya and he knows he doesn't deserve a second chance.’

The sourced added that it hasn’t stopped the rapper from ‘hoping for one [a second chance] anyway’.

MailOnline has contacted both Stormzy and Maya’s representatives for comment.

On Friday Stormzy spoke on BBC Radio 1Xtra Breakfast Show about the emotional break-up track Lessons.

He said: ‘That’s something we shared and it’s on a public forum, everything happened so publicly.

‘It was a hot topic and I’m going on record now and I’m apologising. I’m trying to lay it all bare and be very truthful and be very clear in my truth. I’m not trying to shy away from it.

‘It was a public disrespect. It was a public disrespect that needed a public apology.’

He continued: ‘That girl gave me the world. I will wholeheartedly say that’s a phenomenal woman that loved man wholeheartedly and was man’s everything.

‘And I disrespected and was inconsiderate – a big disrespect. The least I can do is come out and say, come on.

‘I will say it 100 per cent loud and clear that’s a brilliant woman – we shared something very deep and she loved me wholeheartedly. And man went out and disrespected.’

The couple called time on their four-year relationship in August, claiming they had parted ways to focus on their respective careers, with Maya moving out of the home they shared in south-west London.

In Lessons, which features on Stormzy’s new album, Heavy Is the Head, he referenced ‘doing the dirt’ and ‘making ‘coward moves.’

He said: ‘I can’t even look you in the eye, that’s ’cause of shame.’

In another poignant lyric, Stormzy revealed the pair had considered having children together, rapping: ‘We was even meant to share a seed and let it grow in you.’

While Stormzy – real name Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. – confirmed Maya was aware of the track on his new album, he said she hadn’t heard it until its release on Friday.

He explained: ‘I felt like I needed to put this song out not because of that – there’s an element to that – I want my albums to always be a super reflection of who I am as a person. It should be who I am today personified through music.

‘It should be my truth married with music to give you a body of work that I could play to you and you understand exactly where I am in life, what I stand for, my morals, what I’ve been through, what I’m going through, my dreams, my fears, all of that.’

Speaking to Jonathan Ross in October, Maya said she wasn’t dating or on the hunt for a new romance.

She said: ‘I’m not on any apps, basically, I’m not prowling. I’m just living my life. Single life is good. I’m just working.’
